Marlene Ross

Marlene Ross is Senior Adviser, Center for Effective Leadership for the American Council on Education (ACE), where she develops executive leadership programs for cabinet-level officers at colleges and universities. She served as Director of the ACE Fellows Program, the foremost leadership development program in the U.S., for 17 years beginning in 1990. Prior to ACE, she was Associate Director of the Mid–Atlantic Center for Race Equity at The American University (DC). Previously, Ross served as an evaluator of federally funded programs at two- and four-year colleges and assisted institutions in improving planning and management systems. She is co-author of “American Council on Education Fellows Program: Celebrating 40 Years of Leadership Development in Higher Education” in Lessons in Leadership: Executive Leadership Programs for Advancing Diversity in Higher Education, edited by David J. Leon (2005).
Ross is an expert on the American college presidency and is a frequent speaker on issues related to leadership, leadership development, career planning, and issues in higher education. She received the Phil Carroll Advancement of Management Award in Management Education from the Society for Advancement of Management. Ross earned a bachelor’s degree from Barnard College, master’s in education from Harvard University, and doctorate from The American University.
