Susan E. Short

Susan E. Short portraitSusan E. Short serves as the director of Outreach Program Development for Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She previously served the university as the director of the Virginia Tech Roanoke Center. Prior to joining Virginia Tech, she served as Vice President of Instruction and Student Services at Lord Fairfax Community College. In her current role, she provides administrative leadership, strategic planning, policy, budget, and personnel supervision for Continuing and Professional Education, Center for Organizational and Technological Advancement, Language and Culture Institute, Center for Student Engagement and Community Partnerships, and Upward Bound/Talent Search. She also serves as part of the leadership team that supports administrative and program activities at The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center, Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center, and Virginia Tech Research Center – Arlington Conference Center. Susan holds a PhD from Virginia Tech in community college administration, an M.S. in Counseling/Student Personnel Administration from Shippensburg University, and bachelors’ degrees in Music Education and Music Therapy from Shenandoah College and Conservatory of Music.
