Karen Dugger, Ph.D.

Karen Dugger is chair of the Women’s Studies Department and Director of the Institute for Teaching and Research on Women at Towson University. She taught at Bucknell University in the Sociology Department from 1983 until 1999, when she moved to Towson University. At Towson, Dugger developed and currently supervises the Pathways Program which provides scholarships as well as social and academic support for low-income parents so they may have access to an education that will improve their economic self-sufficiency. She received a Ph.D. in sociology from Kent State University. Her most recent publication is an edited book titled, Service Learning in Women’s Studies and The Disciplines. Other publications include Do Educators Have a Responsibility to Raise Social Justice Issues in the Classroom, and Women in Higher Education in the United States: Has There Been Progress?
