Donna Shavlik

Donna Shavlik currently works with her husband, Frank Shavlik, Ph.D., in their consultation business, The Timberline Group. Their collective work builds on their combined years of experience in helping people to realize their highest potential; to treat their families, colleagues and friends with respect and dignity; to understand that differences of race, ethnicity, class, gender, ability, age, and sexual orientation are part of the natural complexity of our world and are to be valued; and to develop strategies to improve the functioning of organizations of all types. Shavlik served the American Council on Education Office of Women in Higher Education for 24 years, from 1973 to 1997. During her tenure there, she played a major role in coordinating efforts among higher education associations and institutions relative to women’s equity and leadership. Following her retirement, she was a senior fellow for ACE’s Kellogg Projects on Institutional Transformation. Prior to ACE, Shavlik taught sociology, women’s studies, and community service and served in student affairs positions at the Universities of Delaware, Kansas and Alabama, as well as Colorado Women’s College. Shavlik was a founding member of the National Council for Research on Women where she has served as chair of the Board. She received a B.S. in horticulture and ornamental floriculture from Colorado State University in 1957 and did graduate work in sociology at the Universities of Alabama and Kansas focusing on the formalization process in organizations.
