Avis Jones-DeWeever is director of the Research, Public Policy, and Information Center for African American Women, a research/action institute based at the National Council for Negro Women which seeks to inform, catalyze and mobilize African American women for change in both the policy arena and throughout the broader cultural dynamic. Jones-DeWeever is published widely and is a frequent political commentator on radio and television. Her areas of expertise are race, gender, and the economy; inequality of educational opportunity; and poverty in urban America. She sits on the Board of Directors of the Women’s Voices. Women Vote. Action Fund and maintains the position of Affiliated Scholar with the Institute for Women’s Policy Research.
